Trapping is a method of capturing and removing animals. The DNR has specific seasons permitting the capture of furbearers. Wildlife biologists recognize trapping as an important wildlife management tool. Trapping is highly regulated and scientifically monitored by professional wildlife biologists; this ensures that professionals utilize the most humane methods and that they never endanger populations.

Trapping benefits both humans and wildlife. It can help keep urban and suburban residents safe from problems caused by people and wildlife living in close proximity. This may come as a surprise, but it is very popular in urban and suburban areas. It keeps overabundant wildlife away from our homes and yards. In many American cities, coyotes, foxes, and raccoons have entered residential and urban areas as their populations soar, and their fear of human contact decreases.

Those unfamiliar with modern trapping think of traps as the big, powerful devices with teeth to capture bears in the early 1900s. Today, these traps are most popular as a display on a cabin wall because there is strict regulation on trap sizes, types, and usage by the state to ensure the most humane method of capture. Scientists aim ongoing research at the development of trap designs.

In many cases, the eradication of nuisance wildlife is utilizing trapping and removal. We work with the customer on a trapping program that works best for the issue, but our base begins as a three-night, four-day period.

By law, traps need to be checked every 24 hours by a Hogarth’s Pest Control & Wildlife Removal employee. Before traps are set, we bid for exclusion when possible as trapping is a temporary fix to a long-term problem. Deck and/or shed exclusion can provide a permanent solution for the homeowner.
