Hogarth's Pest Control specializes in all types of industries, residential and commercial.
Springtails are a common Northern Michigan pest that are often referred to as “snow fleas”. They’re commonly mistaken for fleas and are typically found in bathrooms because they feed on mold and mildew. They are a nuisance pest that can stain painted surfaces when squashed. True to their name, these insects really can jump! Their movement patterns are similar to fleas which is where they get their nickname from.
Springtails usually get out of control when there is a high moisture content around the home. For example, when trees are not cut back and the house does not get much sunlight throughout the day or the vegetation surrounding the home has built up over the years. When the population increases, they will move towards bathrooms, laundry rooms, or kitchens, wherever moisture can be found.
Tips for elimination:
- Clean up vegetation (cut 18 inches away from home)
- Cut back trees around home
