Hogarth's Pest Control specializes in all types of industries, residential and commercial.

Pigeons are stout, short-necked birds, with short, slender bills.  The feathers on their bodies are grey with two black stripes on the wings. Their neck and head are metallic greenish color. They primarily consume seeds, fruits, and plants. Pigeons are one of three birds the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918 does not protect, and because of this can become a significant issue for residential and commercial customers across Northern Michigan.

Pigeons’ urine and fecal matter can carry histoplasmosis and cryptococcosis, fungal diseases that can be hazardous to human health. When exposed in small amounts, most people’s immune systems are strong enough to fight the disease off. As a result, a healthy person would need to inhale a large number of airborne feces to become infected. However, people with weak immune systems will be much more susceptible. It typically takes ten days before symptoms begin to develop.

It’s imperative not to disturb large amounts of droppings, and to take measures to prevent pigeons from becoming significant problems in parks, outdoor restaurants, and industrial park buildings. Every bird job is different, and we typically resolve them with multiple means of eradication. Some methods include trapping, netting, installing deterrents, and marksmanship. Residential customers usually will not experience a significant issue with pigeons unless they live in a highly-populated area.

Hogarth’s specializes in urban marksmanship and other necessary exclusion efforts, which are required for the removal of pigeons. If you are experiencing issues with pigeons at your home or business, do not hesitate to give us a call today.
